Oh, my, that's a lot of alliteration. But it was just too perfect, I couldn't resist. There are a few things you should know about me:
- I love to design.
- I get really excited about the things I design.
- I have an ever-evolving personal style and design taste.
These three things combined make it impossible for me to stick with one "look" for myself or my business for more than a year, tops. I can't tell you how many half-full boxes of business cards that I have lying around that have been made obsolete by newer, more uhhh-mazing business cards.
Sidebar: I mean, c'mon, these new business cards are seriously cool. You can see why my old ones are retired. (Letterpressing and edge painting courtesy of Brooklyn-based print shop, Dolce Press.)
So, I find myself changing my web and print "image" pretty darn often. As my skills as a designer grow, I like that to be reflected in my own personal branding. As a designer, of course, your business' design has to be top-notch, am I right? Unfortunately, my strengths being in print design (web coding is too closely related to math for my depressingly incapable left brain), the website for my boutique design studio, H. Maher Creative, has been severely lacking in pizazz.
BUT NO MORE.
The new site is clean, simple, and the perfect reflection of my new branding -- and of me as a business owner. I wanted something sleek and professional, but also personal in a way that would give potential clients a clear vision of who I am and what it might be like to work with HMC. I'm pretty proud of how it turned out!
The site features a tidy, stacked gallery display for my various design portfolios, an easy-to-follow description of HMC's Creative Process, prior client reviews, and even a place for current clients to log in to the site, download their project surveys, and review their in-process design previews privately. And soon, the home page will feature a fancy-shmancy new video courtesy of Clarity Films. I couldn't be more thrilled about it!
And the truly wonderful thing about the ease of Squarespace for me in particular? I can change it anytime I want. My right-brain is stoked about that.
It's been a crazy ride, jumping right out of college and into the wild world of owning my own business -- not to mention fostering a music career at the same time! But, man, is it exciting, and so rewarding when success does come your way! Branding is SO important when it comes to showing your clients that you're a true professional who has what it takes, and I always find that when I invest in myself, it's completely worth it.
All that to say... hire me.
No, just kidding. The real moral of the story here is to believe that it'll all work out, and it truly will. I don't know why I had so much faith (maybe I was just naive!), but I left college and starting designing and writing music. I quit my desk job only a year and a half later. I just assumed it would work because it just had to, because this is what I was made for. :)
So, go out there! Do it! Grab it! Invest in YOU, and you'll always see a return.
